Context: Framing the Hawai‘i Data Landscape
We believe data is a key factor in addressing Hawai‘i’s most pressing challenges – now and in the future.
But data doesn’t simply exist – it is collected, contextualized, and imbued with meaning by people and organizations. Data becomes valuable and useful when combined with the perspective and framing of those who have direct experience and understanding of the real world situations the data reflects.
But systemic roadblocks can’t be addressed overnight.
Many stakeholders are working to address Hawai‘i’s biggest challenges by building data capacities and developing a data culture where data is an asset that is put to best use when co-developed with those closest to the issues, shared broadly across stakeholders, and applied in service of better outcomes. Hawai‘i Data Collaborative envisions a future where stakeholders emerge as leaders, empowered with data capacities for adapting and responding effectively to shifting economic and social conditions.
